Humberto Ramos
Humberto Ramos is the artist I've had to work hardest not to simply copy. He carries forward a tradition of chunky, angular figures Mignola's weight, Madureira's heat — but with a cartoony irreverence that connects to something more instinctive in me. His proportions shouldn't hold together dimensionally, and they barely do, teetering right at the edge of credulity in a way that feels intentional and alive. When Ramos puts his full personal energy into a character, the result is often the definitive depiction of that character. And I want to see every single one of them as a sculpture.
